Expanded Vermiculite – Medium Grade 100l
R177.00
Medium Grade vermiculite is mostly used in the agri- and horticultural industries.
Description
Vermiculite is a well-known silica mineral with laminar layers that expands when subjected to intense heat in a furnace. Due to the heat it is subjected to during expansion, vermiculite is a sterile product used in many applications.
In horticulture Vermiculite has a excellent property of improving soil aeration while retaining moisture and nutrients to feed roots, cuttings and seeds for faster, maximum growth.
Most growers use around 30% of vermiculite in their soil or substrates to get the best benefits from the growing medium and to germinate their seeds.
Vermiculite has an excellent absorption capacity of up to 4 times its own weight.
When mixed in with soil or substrates for seedlings it improves the CEC (Cation-Exchange-Capacity).
Vermiculite is used in numerous industries e.g. horticulture, construction, animal feed premixes, reptile egg incubation, insulation, industrial spillages etc.
Due to its low-density and thermal insulating properties vermiculite is also used in light weight concrete screeds for insulation purposes.
Properties that make vermiculite useful in all industries:
– has a high cation exchange capacity
– aerates
– seed germination
– has a high absorption capacity and retainment of moisture
– is chemically inert and sterile
– low in density
– improves thermal and acoustic insulation
Medium Grade is best suited for:
– horticulture & seed germination
– gardening
– insulation
– lightweight concrete screeds
Although we strive to provide a clean product, we would advise that caution be taken when working with vermiculite as it may be dusty and can cause throat and eye irritations.
